The Starbucks venti comes in a bigger cup with more liquid, but is a venti a better value than a grande? How many shots of espresso are in a venti?
Most hot venti drinks have two shots, the same as in a grande. Some venti drinks, though, have as many as four shots of espresso, even if you don’t ask for extras.
Whether you want to regulate your caffeine intake or get the most for your dollar, here’s all the info you need about Starbucks venti drinks.
How Many Shots Of Espresso In A Venti?
A venti is usually 20 ounces, but most of that volume is usually milk, not espresso. Your standard venti lattes and other hot venti drinks have just two shots of espresso. The typical espresso shot size is just 1 ounce, so only 2 of those 20 ounces are filled with espresso.
A bit later, I’ll show you some other venti drinks that have more than two shots of espresso, but first, let’s compare these numbers to the next size down—the grande.
How Many Shots Of Espresso In A Grande?
Starbucks grande drinks also have two shots of espresso. That means you are getting exactly as much coffee in a 16-ounce grande as you are in a 20-ounce venti. The extra size (and money!) goes toward steamed milk and flavorings.
As you may have guessed, then, the strongest Starbucks drinks will almost always be the grande drinks, not the venti. And they are also the best value for your money. There is one exception, though, and that’s the Caffe Americano which has three shots in the grande and four shots in the venti.
How Many Shots Of Espresso In Other Venti Drinks?
Okay, so I oversimplified things earlier. Your basic hot venti drink has two shots, but some other venti drinks have as many as four shots. And, of course, you can always pay to have more shots of espresso added to your drink.
Here’s a quick rundown of the espresso shots in each venti drink:
Starbucks drink type | Size (ounces) | Espresso shots |
---|---|---|
Hot venti (latte, cappuccino, macchiato, etc.) | 20 | 2 |
Iced venti (latte, cappuccino, macchiato, etc.) | 24 | 3 |
Venti Americano | 24 | 4 |
Notice that the 3 and 4 shot venti drinks are also larger, so the flavor of the coffee isn’t that much stronger. But by the time you finish the drink, you’ll still have an extra heavy dose of caffeine to keep you awake.
